To my sweet Delta Zeta...

As we sit here today I want to light a spark in all of you. I want to share with you the beautiful moments of Delta Zeta, and the tougher ones. While Greek Life is not what we envision from the movies — it is so much more.

Take a second to close your eyes. Let’s sit and meditate on why you are here. Why are you going through recruitment? Is it for the friendships? The leadership experiences? To meet new friends? Whatever your reasoning might be, we all have one thing in common — a longing to be the best version of ourselves.

With your eyes still closed, envision your current self, who you are right now in this very moment, and pretend you’re looking at the most cookie cutter, perfect version of yourself that you aspire to become. Do you want a family? Do you want to be the next CEO of a company? Do you want to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail? Maybe you want to travel across the world.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Are you setting yourself up for success to reach your future aspirations?

Now open your eyes and look around you. To your left, to your right. Take this moment in. You chose to go through recruitment to fulfill these goals you have in life. You chose to sit here today with all these lovely people around you for a reason.

Whatever your goals may be, no matter how diverse, we all want to grow as individuals and love in harmony with those around us.

Greek Life can give you that. The kicker is, you have to put into it what you want out of it. You’ll never challenge yourself if you only give half of your potential.

I would have never met some of the most amazing women in my life if I hadn’t taken a leap of faith and joined Delta Zeta. While we may all get frustrated with one another, at the end of the day we are family. We are a group of strong, empowering, compassionate, and sassy women who don’t back down in the eyes of adversity.

We are a community that shares love, and prayers, and kind words in times of need. We share shoes and carpool to class. Most importantly, we’re all chipping away to reveal our dream selves one day at a time. The only difference between us and you all today — is that we have found our home, with Delta Zeta. I hope every one of you finds your home too.

While it is almost time for me to part with my sweet Delta Zeta, I want to leave you with some words of encouragement. I too sat in your place — striving for greatness, seeking out every opportunity at my finger tips. College is full of uncertainties, but a sisterhood is a safe haven to lift you up and persevere in times of need.

I pray God gives you peace as you make a difficult, but rewarding decision this evening. As we continue our precious ceremony, I want you to think about that ideal self you just imagined. Where do you want to be? WHO do you want to be? Find the sisterhood that will nurture that ideal self into a reality.

Love,

Sister Tori ❤️
